Greetings from the College of Business!
At the College of Business, we always strive
to provide the highest quality education for
our students. Our dedicated faculty and
staff work hard to push the College to the
top ranks of business schools across the
nation, and our efforts are continually
recognized. Recently, just a couple months
after being honored by Entrepreneur
magazine and the Princeton Review, our
entrepreneurship program was again named
among the best in the nation, this time by
Women 3.0 magazine. The magazine also ranked
our Executive MBA program in the top 50.
We have opened a new Business Communications
Center to help prepare our students to meet
the demands of communication tasks in the
workplace. You can read more about this
Center in this newsletter.
We value our students' commitment to
educational excellence, too! Both
undergraduate and graduate students are
making their mark in the University and in
the business community; many of them juggle
full work and course loads and still manage
to maintain good standing in both aspects of
life. In December last year, a group of
undergraduate students flew the USF flag
high when they were chosen to present their
marketing ideas for popular car manufacturer
Chevrolet to a group of the company's
leaders. You can read more about the details
of this and other student accomplishments.
Be sure to read about the great things some
of our alumni are doing. Many have become
worldwide leaders, testifying that their
education from the College of Business plays
a major part in their success.

Prospective Business Students Get Acquainted
with the BBC |
| |
Touring a residence hall isn't typically
part of the day's agenda for USF Interim
Provost Ralph Wilcox, but on February 19, he
was one of nearly 75 guests who toured Maple
Hall B to meet students who are a part of
the Bulls Business Community, a
living-learning residence for freshman
business majors. Wilcox and other
administrators joined potential freshmen and
their parents for a tour of the BBC and a
chance to get first-hand scoop from students
about life as a part of this group of
students.

Two USF Grads Head to Wall Street
|
| |
Two USF grads snagged what is often viewed
as a "dream job" for aspiring finance or
accounting students: analyst positions at
Goldman Sachs in New York City. The
investment banking and securities firm,
which has been dubbed by the New York Times
as "without peer in the world of finance,"
provides financial advice to some of the
most important companies, largest
governments, and wealthiest families around
the globe. Given the firm's reputation for
recruiting almost exclusively from schools
such as Harvard, Wharton, and Columbia, the
extension of not one, but two, offers to USF
grads (on the company's inaugural trip to
USF) serves as testament to the quality of
programs at USF's business school.

Communications Center Opens to Business
Majors |
| |
Many of today's employers seem to be facing
a particular challenge with their employees:
a lack of good writing skills. They complain
that employees lack sufficient skills, a
fault that puts these employees at a
disadvantage as they may lose opportunities
for advancement. In an attempt to ameliorate
this situation, employees attend workshops
or training sessions to improve their
skills, causing the company to lose time
over a skill that should have been acquired
before entering the workforce. Recognizing
the need for students to possess
high-quality writing skills, the College of
Business recently opened the Business
Communications Center for undergraduate and
graduate business students.

Serial Entrepreneur Shares Advice with USF
Students; Establishes Warren and Larissa
Bare Innovation Fund |
| |
It's been said that Steve Jobs urged Apple
employees to live each day as if it was
their last, saying, "someday you'll most
certainly be right," challenging them to
rise above mediocrity and "make a dent in
the universe." A so-called serial
entrepreneur who retired in his early 30's,
Warren Bare thinks this is sage advice and
stepped out of retirement to do just that.
