College
Congratulates First Graduating Class of Masters in
Entrepreneurship Program |
|
This summer, the College proudly
recognized the first graduates of the Master of Science in
Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies. The program, which began
in 2005, is administered through the College of Business’ Center for
Entrepreneurship, in conjunction with the College of Engineering,
USF Health, and the Graduate School. It is designed to successfully
teach students to apply their knowledge in business, life sciences,
engineering, and other fields to create value in new and existing
ventures.
|
"These
three graduates represent
the best and the brightest of our next generation of
entrepreneurial leaders. They have set the bar high in
both academic and entrepreneurial achievement during their
course of study. They serve as exemplary role models for our
current and future students and are truly outstanding alumni
of the University of South Florida. I am extremely proud of
each one both personally and professionally," said Dr.
Michael Fountain, Director of the Center for
Entrepreneurship.

This year, the Center for Entrepreneurship received national
recognition for
Innovative Pedagogy for Entrepreneurship Education
(Interdisciplinary Technology Entrepreneurship).
The
Center has received top national awards for its education from the
United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE)
for the third year in a row.
|
|
“The format of this award-winning program provides a realistic
preview of entrepreneurship across various fields. The opportunity
to learn from distinguished and experienced entrepreneurial faculty,
business leaders, concept generators and seasoned entrepreneurs is a
highlight of this program,” said graduate David K. Vondenberger. Students can complete
the MSE in one year, or within five.
Individuals who
have obtained a bachelor’s degree in any area of study and meet the
application criteria are invited to apply.
The MSE in Applied Technologies may be completed as a part of a
dual-degree program in conjunction with the MBA degree and various
other traditional degree programs upon approval.
|
|
The degree offers practical training in all aspects of
entrepreneurship from business plan development and new venture
formation, through market and technological assessment, to financing
strategies, technology transfer, execution and sustainability.
According to graduate William Marshall, the program also provides instruction and
experience in areas not commonly covered in business, science, and
engineering curricula such as Intellectual Property and FDA
Regulatory Compliance. |
|
“There is no question that the MSE program has improved my
leadership abilities and technical skills,” said graduate Daniel
James Scott. “I highly recommend the program, the staff, and
the faculty to anyone considering the opportunity to improve their
entrepreneurial toolkit.”
