MIS Students Pack Auditorium to Learn from Area IT Pros

More than 100 students packed into the College of Business auditorium on October 24 as a panel of area IT professionals shared information about careers in technology and skill sets employers look for when hiring new college grads.

The discussion, entitled, “Skills Needed in Today’s World of IT,” featured Robert Green, vice president of Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, D. Brian Roulstone, chief information/technology officer of Bisk Education Inc., and Dar Isler, vice president of JP Morgan Chase.  The panelists advised students about how to keep up in the technical field, saying, “Employers seek only the top candidates for IT/IS positions. One of the best ways to become part of this elite pool is to continuously develop your skills in information technology.”

society hosted the annual forum in October.

During the discussion, students had the opportunity to pose questions to the panelists. They were also treated to pizza and drinks, courtesy of the MIS Society. The MIS Society is a student organization that provides opportunities for members to meet with and learn from faculty, industry leaders, and company leaders in the information systems arena. “MIS brings in influential speakers from the IT community from local and national levels to discuss careers, emerging trends, and 'day as a life of...' presentations that give great insight into some of the careers in IT,” said Nikita Polyakov, president of the MIS Society. The organization also exposes its members to employment prospects in the industry.
