Greetings from the College of Business
Administration!
With graduation just days away, it's a
natural time for reflection. Personally,
while I enjoy looking back, I like to use
this as a time to look forward. After all,
that's what our students are doing as they
move that tassel from right to left. They
are eager to move forward! In this issue of
the Executive, our quarterly newsletter for
the College of Business Administration, we
are looking back and looking forward, too.
Two student groups will look back on this
year with pride. Beta Alpha Psi (the
accounting honorary society) won the
Southeast regional for its presentation in
Best Practices within the category of
Strategic Planning. Students in our American
Marketing Association chapter earned kudos
on both local and national levels this year.
Read more in the student spotlights section
of the newsletter.
We've also featured several stories about
the future in this issue. In June, we will
host our first ever "Communications for
Today's Workplace" seminar and will launch
our "Communications Across the Curriculum"
initiative this fall. We will offer our
undergraduate program in Singapore in
August. We held our first "Lean Management"
course over spring break and will open our
MIT partnership course to the business
community in September. Our Financial
Services Education Center will launch this
year as well. These and other new
initiatives are featured in this issue.
Join us as we look back, and look forward.

Robert Forsythe, Dean

New Center Gives Students Real-Life
Financial Services Experience

This fall, the College of Business at the
University of South Florida will introduce
the Financial Services Education Center (FSEC).
The Center will provide an enriched
practical education to students who are
interested in pursuing careers in financial
services. The program will incorporate
"on-the-job" education much like many
financial services firms use when training
new hires for entry-level positions.

Students Learn Lean Management
|
| |
University of South Florida MBA students may
have given up their spring breaks, but they
didn't go without beer while participating
in the first ever Lean Management course in
March. The course, designed for supervisors
and managers eager to improve efficiency and
eliminate waste from business systems,
filled just three days after registration
began, even though it required students to
skip spring break and spend eight hours each
day in class instead.
