RWJF: Unsolicited Grants
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation(RWJF) currently awards approximately 25 percent of its grantmaking funds to unsolicited
proposals developed by people and organizations outside of RWJF that help to address one or more of the
Foundation's 11 key interest areas but do not fit within the specific strategy outlined in a Call for Proposals.
We invite proposals that:
Challenge traditional ways of defining health and health care issues.
Offer creative approaches to solving problems.
Introduce new ideas to health and health care services and policy.
Through unsolicited grants, RWJF seeks to foster opportunities to learn from grantees and stretch the limits of
conventional wisdom in health and health care. This is a vital means for RWJF to cultivate the innovative ideas of
people and organizations. Occasionally, individual RWJF staff may collaborate with organizations to submit proposals
in response to particular issues.
The proposals should address the objectives of one or more of the Foundation's current interest areas:
Addiction Prevention & Treatment
Building Human Capital
Childhood Obesity
Disparities
Health Insurance Coverage
Nursing
Pioneer
Public Health
Quality Health Care
Tobacco Use & Exposure
Vulnerable Populations
For projects to be eligible for funding they must fall within the guidelines of the types of projects or activities that we fund:
Service demonstrations
Gathering & monitoring of health-related statistics
Public education
Training and fellowship programs
Policy analysis
Health services research
Technical assistance
Communications activities
Evaluations
Deadline: RWJF accepts proposals for unsolicited grants at any time and awards them throughout
the year—there are no deadlines.
