LILP: Fellowships in Planning and Urban Form
Sponsor: The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy (LILP)
Through an active program of research, policy engagement, and dissemination, the Department of Planning and Urban Form is working to discover new knowledge, develop better tools and methods, and improve land policy and the practice of planning. The department is concerned with the relationship between planning and the form of the built environment, with a particular focus on three subject areas: regional/spatial planning at different scales, territorial spillovers, and multijurisdictional governance; property rights and the tension between public and private interests in the use of land; and “ecostructure,” the intersection of land policy, land conservation, and the environment.
Accordingly, research may address the following topics (in no particular order):
§ Factors, including fiscal and environmental impacts, contributing to the acceptance or rejection of higher density development projects
§ The legal and economic implications of establishing compensation for ecosystem services rendered through land conservation
§ International planning models and their relevance to the United States
§ Changing urban spatial structure and land policy
§ Both mitigating and adaptive aspects of urban planning responses to climate change
§ New areas of exploration or other issues that fall within the domain of the department
Amount: Research funding for each approved proposal will be no more than $30,000, not including supplement for travel for the research presentation.
Deadline: September 15, 2007
