IMA: Research Grants for Management Accounting

Sponsor: The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)

The IMA Foundation for Applied Research, Inc. (FAR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, educational organization formed in 1994 as an entity affiliated with IMA. FAR’s mission is to assist with the funding, development, and dissemination of timely research that assists management accounting and finance professionals in their roles. All research projects funded by FAR are evaluated based on their potential to contribute to the “body of knowledge” available to the members of IMA and the management accounting profession as a whole.

Many of the research projects funded by FAR support the IMA Research Center of Excellence (CoE). The CoE provides and guides actionable research in several areas, with a current focus on five practice areas that have the potential to enable management accounting and finance professionals to be more successful business partners in a fast paced, technologically advanced environment. These areas are:

1. Leadership Strategies & Ethics

2. Technology Enablement

3. Strategic Cost Management

4. Business Performance Management

5. Enterprise Risk & Controls

The FAR Board of Trustees (the Trustees) places an emphasis on funding research that contributes to the five areas listed above, but, submissions of research proposals that affect any area of the management accounting profession are invited and strongly Encouraged.

Deadline: Our goal is to provide responses to research proposals within approximately 90 business days of receipt. During the 7/1/06–6/30/07 funding cycle, the grant submission process is open, and grants are accepted all year.
