IIA: The Sabbatical Opportunity for Academic Researchers (SOAR)
Sponsor: The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
The Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation (IIARF) is now offering an exciting new opportunity for professors who are seeking to expand their professional repertoire. The Sabbatical Opportunity for Academic Researchers (SOAR) allows professors to spend up to two semesters or three quarters on sabbatical working with The IIARF on a variety of internal audit survey-based research projects.
The primary goal of this program is to rapidly produce research on emerging issues. Therefore, over the course of your sabbatical, you would be responsible for survey design and/or data mining of existing surveys/literature, and data analysis. You will be required to complete two primary reports of approximately 30 pages each per semester or quarter and two additional reports of approximately five pages each per semester or quarter. All work should be done in adherence with The IIARF’s Guide For Writers. Visit www.theiia.org/research and click on research reports and publications for examples of the type of work that The Foundation is seeking.
Amount: The IIA Research Foundation will make it easier for you to SOAR by providing the following compensation and support during your sabbatical:
• Monetary compensation to cover any portion of your salary not paid by your college or university during the sabbatical period. Funds will be distributed as pre-defined milestones are completed.
• Reasonable transportation, lodging, and meal expenses for pre-approved travel.
• Consultation with The IIARF staff to determine the topics to be researched.
• Review of the survey instrument.
• Assisted access to The IIA’s comprehensive Flash survey database and The IIA’s membership database.
• Assisted access to other resources as needed.
• Working space, computer access, and phone availability during visits to The IIA’s global headquarters.
• Review of your work and feedback by The IIARF Board of Research and Education Advisors.
• Your name as the author on all reports you create.
• The rights to publish your reports in non-competing publications such as academic journals with prior notification and appropriate credit to The IIARF for funding, support, and sponsorship.*
Deadline: To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae; a list of your previously published research and a sample if available; the dates you would be available to SOAR; the salary amount not paid by your employer during the sabbatical period (in US dollars); and separate line items for any additional expenses not covered by your employer during your sabbatical.
