EBRI: Fellows Program
The Fellows Program is designed to aid the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) in
carrying out its mission of research and education. It allows individuals from the government, private sector,
academia, and media to undertake projects on health, retirement, and other economic security issues.
Through its Fellows Program, the Employee Benefit Research Institute’s Education and Research Fund (EBRI-ERF) has funded
a variety of studies exploring such issues as lump sum distributions, individual account plans and participant
education, the part-time work force, the Japanese pension market, hospital pricing, health care quality measurement,
and corporate work/family programs.
Individuals wishing to apply to the Fellows Program should email a cover letter and a copy of their current
vitae to fellows@ebri.org.
If an applicant is also seeking project funding, a letter of intent, rather than a fully developed proposal
should be included. The letter of intent should be no more than two double-spaced pages. This minimizes the
demand on the applicant's time, yet helps the Institute determine whether a proposed project falls within the
Program's objectives. The letter must detail the deliverables from the proposed research.
Generally, EBRI seeks projects that frame a specific public policy issue in a nonprescriptive style using a format
accessible to policymakers. In keeping with our mission, EBRI will not publish studies that advocate specific policy
recommendations.
The letter of intent should contain the following information about the proposed project:
A brief description of the topic to be addressed and its policy significance;
A statement of the project's principal objectives;
A description of the research or evaluation methodology to be used;
An estimated timetable and budget for the completion of the project; and
The qualifications of the applicant.
Deadline: Open
