The Minor in Economics

The minor in economics is an 18 hour program. While it is a valuable addition to any degree, it is a particularly good choice for business, political science, pre-law, international studies, mass communication, sociology, social work, environmental policy, information systems, and social science education majors.

Business majors complete half of the minor (9 hours) as part of the business core requirements. Therefore, most business majors can earn a minor in economics by taking only three additional courses.

Students from other majors University-wide may earn a minor in Economics by satisfactorily completing 18 hours in Economics including:

  • ECO 2013 Economic Principles: Macroeconomics
    ECO 2023 Economic Principles: Microeconomics

The other 12 hours must be economics electives numbered 3000 or higher with the following exceptions:

  • ECO 1000 Basic Economics is accepted toward the minor if taken before both ECO 2013 and ECO 2023.
  • QMB 3200 Economics and Business Statistics II is accepted toward the minor.

ECO 4905 and ECO 4914 (Independent Study and Independent Research) may not be counted toward the minor. Students must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in minor course work for certification of the minor for graduation. At least 9 hours must be taken in residence at U.S.F. Students can obtain program approval from the Economics Advisor in the Economics Office, BSN 3432.
