Welcome to the USF Department of Economics The Department is physically and administratively located in the College of Business Administration although we also offer our undergraduate major and minor through the College of Arts and Sciences. We have fifteen full-time faculty members and two full-time staff members. Academic programs of the Department consist of an undergraduate major (BA or BS), an undergraduate minor, a master's degree (MA), and a PhD degree. In addition, we offer the core economics courses in the undergraduate business program and MBA program as well as an economics track in the MBA program. Economics offers a clear and logical way of thinking about complicated issues such as unemployment, inflation, international trade, labor unions, public finance, governmental regulations, antitrust laws, health care, economic aspects of law, urban development, and environmental degradation. The Department offers courses in all these areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This allows students to tailor their programs so as to obtain training for their desired careers in business, teaching, government, and law. Our emphasis is on the quality of our programs, rather than the quantity. Being An Economist: A Handbook for Students Interested in Economics provides detailed information on why one should study economics, career opportunities for economists, and economics as an avocation as well as information on our undergraduate and graduate programs, courses, and faculty. To request a copy, contact the Undergraduate Programs Director or the Graduate Programs Secretary. Thank you for your interest in the Department of Economics at USF. I hope you find our web site helpful and informative. If you have not found what you were looking for, however, please feel free to contact us.
