Teaching Philosophy

While the following may not strictly be a "teaching philosophy," it nevertheless seems to sum up things rather nicely:

"If a picture is supposed to replace a thousand words, it is quite likely that five good difference equations could replace a thousand pictures." ( Mark Perlman, 'Editor's Note,' Journal of Economic Literature, March 1981, p. 2
As an example of the wide range of subjects that can be analyzed from an economic dynamic viewpoint, read this story on an application of dynamic optimization techniques to football:
If you are still uncertain as to why it is important to take a course in macroeconomics, then I also suggest that you either listen to (using Real Player) or read one of the following.  The text is the script of the audio file.  These come from the Prairie Home Companion show that was first broadcast on April 24, 1999 from the University of Minnesota.  Don't be troubled by the reference to ketchup!  You will see why it's there soon enough.
