Required Texts:
Managerial Economics
by Maurice/Thomas, 6th Edition
Student Workbook for use with Managerial Economics by Maurice/Thomas

Course Description:
This course covers more rigorously topics introduced in Principles of Microeconomics about the way a market economy allocates resources for the production of goods and services, and then produces and distributes those products. The underlying purpose of the course is to enable students to analyze business and personal economic issues and the effect of their proposed solutions in a logical manner.

NOTE: STUDENTS MAY NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR BOTH ECO 3100 AND ECO 3101 (PRICE THEORY)

Exams: There will be two mid-term exams and a final exam. No make-up exams will be given. Unexcused absences will result in a grade of zero for the exam. Excused absences (which will be granted in cases of illness or other emergencies) must be arranged before the exams if at all possible. If a student has missed an exam, he/she must take a comprehensive final which will then be weighted to make up for the missed exam. The final exam is required for the completion of the course. No incompletes will be given except in the case of severe illness of the student or a death in the immediate family.

Grading:

Exam 1 30%

Exam 2 30%

Final Exam 35%

Class Participation 5%

The class participation component will include:

HOMEWORK

Reading Guide Questions (based on the textbook) will be assigned for each chapter. It is highly recommended that these be completed and handed in on the day class discussion for the chapter begins. Assignments in the Student Workbook will be collected the class following the day the chapter is completed in class.

General Remarks: Managerial Economics is a difficult and time-consuming course. The student should be prepared to allocate his/her time accordingly. Students are expected to attend classes regularly and are responsible for all material covered in class. Grades are based solely on performance, not on "effort" or on whether a student plans to graduate at the end of the semester, etc. GRADES ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE.

Religious Observances Students who anticipate the necessity of being absent from class due to the observation of a major religious observance must provide notice of the date(s) to the instructor, in writing, by the second class meeting.
